Sulphur dyes are a type of Sulphur-containing dyes that contain Sulphur bonds composed of two or more Sulphur atoms in their molecules. When applied, they are reduced to a chromophore, dissolved in water, and used to dye fibers. The characteristics of Sulphur dye dyeing vary depending on the type of dye used. Sulphur dyes have high water washing fastness and strong applicability. Although their rubbing fastness and brightness are not as good as reactive dyes, their color fastness and light fastness are better than reactive dyes. In addition, Sulphur dyes use less salt and consume less water when dyeing. Sulphur dyes are insoluble in water, and sodium sulfide or other reducing agents need to be used during dyeing to reduce the dye to a soluble chromophore. It has an affinity for fibers and dyes them, then after oxidation and coloration, it returns to its insoluble state and attaches to the fibers. So Sulphur dyes are also a type of reducing dye. Sulphur dyes can be used for dyeing fibers such as cotton, linen, and viscose. Their manufacturing process is relatively simple, the cost is low, and they can dye single colors or color combinations. They have good sun resistance and firmness, but poor wear resistance and firmness. The lack of red and purple in the chromatography results in a darker color, making it suitable for dyeing heavy colors. |
